FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
WHAT CAUSES HAIR LOSS?
Hair loss affects more than 80 million Americans- approximately 50 million men and 30 million women. There are many different types and reasons for hair loss. Genetics, medications, medical conditions, stress and aging can all cause hair loss. The good news is most of these can be reversed with medical management. Those who are the best candidates for hair transplant have a specific type of hair loss called androgenetic alopecia (also known as male pattern baldness or female pattern hair loss). Female pattern hair loss affects approximately 40% of women by age 50. For about 25% of men, the balding process begins in their 20s and almost 85% will experience noticeable hair loss by their 50s.
AM I A CANDIDATE FOR HAIR RESTORATION?
HOW DOES THE PROCESS WORK?
We use a state of the art robotic hair transplant system that utilizes specialized technology and a robotic arm to precisely extract “donor” hair from your own head. We then transplant those donor hair follicles by hand for the most custom and natural looking results. Feel free to visit our How it Works page for more details, or contact us if you have questions!
DOES MY HAIR TYPE MATTER?
The ARTAS™ robotic procedure works best for men and women with dark, straight hair. However, MD Hair Labs offers restoration solutions to people with all different hair types and colors. Come visit us and let’s discuss your options.
IS THE PROCEDURE SAFE?
HOW NATURAL LOOKING IS IT?
We harvest your own hair and meticulously design your new hair line or crown. Design is based on your original hair line, hair direction, and density. Pairing our aesthetic eye with precise technology gives you natural, permanent results.
HOW SHOULD I PREPARE FOR MY TRANSPLANT?
– At least 2 weeks prior to the procedure: stop using topical hair treatments or blood-thinning medications.
– At least 1 week prior: No smoking one week before or after.
– 3 days before: No alcohol up to the time of the procedure.
– Day of procedure: No coffee or caffeine of any kind up to the time of the procedure.
HOW LONG DOES THE PROCEDURE TAKE?
DOES THE PROCEDURE HURT?
This is an outpatient procedure performed in our office and requires only a local anesthetic. The patient feels virtually no pain. Some patients can experience minor discomfort and swelling post-procedure, which subsides in one to three days—a much faster recovery than other methods.
WHAT IS THE RECOVERY LIKE?
WILL THERE BE ANY SCARRING OR SIDE EFFECTS?
Our hair restoration transplant procedure is minimally invasive—accurately and intelligently harvesting individual follicles—which means no unsightly linear scarring. Side effects may include hemorrhage, infection, telogen effluvium, itching, scarring, cysts, bleeding, and swelling. Let us know if you have concerns.
